How to use a POE Injector?
The PoE injector is a useful device that can provide power to standard-based PoE, PoE+, and PoE++ compliant devices while also sending data. It acts as an intermediary between non-PoE switches and PoE compliant devices, powering devices such as IP cameras or wireless access points.
For instance, to power an IP camera using a PoE injector, you will need the camera, PoE adapters (depending on the number of cameras), a standard network switch, and Cat5e, Cat6 or Cat6a Ethernet patch cables. Here are the steps:
- Verify that all equipment is working correctly, including the IP camera, PoE injector, and camera management system. Configure all video and network settings before mounting the camera.
- Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the PoE injector’s Power or PoE port and the other end to the IP camera’s PoE port.
- Mount the IP camera in a location with sufficient light to provide a clear image.
- Connect another Ethernet cable to the injector’s Ethernet or Data port and the Ethernet switch.
- Connect the injector’s power cord to a local AC electrical outlet.
